PRESS RELEASE: At MWC Barcelona 2024, Huawei scooped the GSMA GLOMO ‘Best Mobile Technology Breakthrough’ award for its “0 Bit 0 Watt” solution. This award recognizes the importance of Huawei’s leading native-green network technology. The “0 Bit 0 Watt” solution enables operators to build energy-efficient networks that deliver a premium user experience. This is the first time that a network energy-saving solution has won this award.
The “0 Bit 0 Watt” solution is equipped with Huawei’s native-green technologies that were designed to ensure premium experience and high energy efficiency at the levels from equipment to networks. In zero-load hours, with a switch-off depth level of 99%, the RF equipment consumes less than 10 watts of power during idle hours, and also automatically wakes up in seconds when needed to handle user service requests. This is the first solution to support these capabilities.
In other load conditions, it uses unique innovation in power amplifiers and antennas to achieve end-to-end high energy efficiency. It leverages intelligent technology to improve resource and power scheduling at the network and site levels. Therefore, networks are able to identify service types and scenarios and allocate and schedule network resources accordingly, ensuring that energy is appropriately distributed to ensure maximum energy utilization and efficiency. Meanwhile, the sites are able to sense load changes of network equipment and accordingly adjust between power feeding and storage towards maximum efficiency at the site level.
With these technologies and innovation, the “0 Bit 0 Watt” solution is highly energy efficient while delivering premium user experiences on 5G networks.
The “0 Bit 0 Watt” solution has been deployed on more than 30 networks worldwide. Results have shown it can reduce the average daily energy consumption by 9% to 38%, while improving user experience significantly.
Yu Yang, President of Huawei’s SingleRAN Product Line, thanked GSMA for its recognition of Huawei’s network energy-saving technology. New 5G applications have created a surge of network traffic.
