VIDEO INTERVIEW: Weili Dai, co-founder of chipmaker Marvell (pictured), said her company can use the breadth of its product portfolio to compete with bigger players.

“In any new technology, whoever can drive the leadership will grab a bigger market first. We have a very rich portfolio — so we’ve got all the connectivity, the modem technology, the video, the 3D, all that is needed for a mobile smart device,” she said in an interview with Mobile World Live.

“For Marvell, the beauty is even though we’re one of the youngest companies, we have so many different product capabilities. I think it’s very important to have such diversity,” the executive added.

Dai also welcomed the impact competition has on innovation: “I love competition. I think competition raises the bar because everybody will continue to innovate,” she said.

The Marvell chief noted the importance of offering affordable technology to support LTE as demand for video and different kinds of online content increases. “Having 4G connectivity is very important,” she said.
