PRESS RELEASE: The Global Mobile Broadband Forum 2023, centered around the theme ‘Bring 5.5G into Reality’, took place in Dubai, UAE from October 10 to October 11. China Unicom Anhui was participated in the Intelligent RAN Summit, where its representative delivered a keynote speech entitled ‘Stride to the Intelligent World: Innovation Drives Higher-Level Autonomous Networks.’

With the increasing complexity of wireless networks and the diversification of services, network maintenance, and optimization are faced with multiple challenges. China Unicom Anhui is dedicated to advancing network intelligence and constructing highly efficient, flexible, reliable, and secure intelligent networks by leveraging Huawei’s IntelligentRAN. This commitment aims to contribute to social and economic development and improve people’s lives. China Unicom Anhui has achieved remarkable results over the past year through its innovative practices of intelligent transformation.

From Passive to Proactive O&M

China Unicom Anhui has made an active shift from passive O&M to proactive O&M. The company introduced China’s first O&M system for wireless networks, featuring risk prediction and work order dispatch functions. China Unicom Anhui developed a risk prediction model library by utilizing the RAN Digital Twins System and extensive network data and expert knowledge, resulting in a significant breakthrough in identifying high temperature and optical link risks. By leveraging the model library, the company can detect approximately 25% of faults in advance, preventing a reduction in the network’s online rate caused by faults and improving the online rate of base stations to 99.9%.

One Fault, One Work Order, and One Site Visit

China Unicom Anhui has developed an advanced fault identification and diagnosis system that efficiently compresses redundant alarms and intelligently identifies root alarms through reverse reasoning and probability decision-making models. This system enables “one work order for one fault” and provides effective troubleshooting methods. Extensive testing has demonstrated that the system can significantly reduce the number of work orders by 32% and shorten the average fault handling duration by 25%.

Rapid, Hour-level Location of Root Causes for Performance Issues

The traditional method of diagnosing performance issues involves using fixed thresholds to identify problematic cells. However, this approach may overlook certain problematic cells, leading to inaccurate results. In addition, the process of identifying the root cause of the issue often requires collaboration between multiple departments, resulting in time-consuming manual analysis and inaccuracy in locating the root case. China Unicom Anhui has successfully piloted an intelligent KPI RCA approach that employs dynamic thresholds to filter problematic cells in real-time. This method has a success rate of automatically identifying 96% of performance issues and accurately locating the root cause of 86% of them, thanks to the intelligent root cause diagnosis algorithms.

Minute-level Compensation for Out-of-Service Base Stations

It has always been a challenge to automatically address coverage holes caused by out-of-service cells and base stations. China Unicom Anhui successfully leveraged intelligent coverage compensation solutions to detect the distribution of out-of-service base stations within 1 minute, generate compensation policies within 3 minutes, and adjust the neighboring cell coverage within 5 minutes. User experience did not decrease significantly.

China Unicom Anhui and Huawei are set to deepen their collaboration in developing autonomous networks, committing to technological innovation to propel the digital transformation of enterprises. Their goal is to guide wireless networks toward becoming more intelligent and construct leading-edge autonomous networks in the 5.5G era, leading ongoing transformation and advancement within the communications industry.
