PRESS RELEASE: ZTE Corporation in partnership with China Telecom, today has released a 5G-Advanced solution, Cluster DRS (Dynamic Radio Sharing) at MWC24 in Barcelona, Spain. This innovative solution enables dynamic radio sharing within base station clusters, fostering the development of the low-altitude economy.

Since 2019, China Telecom has been at the forefront of 5G innovation, establishing the world’s first and largest 5G Standalone (SA) network. With over 318 million 5G users, China Telecom has also implemented more than 9,000 specialized 5G networks and spearheaded over 28,000 industry application projects across sectors such as manufacturing, energy, healthcare, education, smart cities, transportation, culture, and tourism.

As a leader in the development of new information technology industries, China Telecom remains dedicated to exploring new business opportunities and scenarios. The low-altitude economy has emerged as a key focus area. To meet the real-time and high-throughput requirements of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), seamless 5G coverage is essential, extending even to high-altitude environments.

To drive the large-scale development of the low-altitude economy, China Telecom and ZTE have collaborated to introduce the innovative Cluster DRS solution. This solution extends the mature “Cluster” resource management concept to the spatial domain. Leveraging the drone’s flight trajectory and service requirements, the 5G commercial network dynamically generates a base station cluster with flexible spatial beam sharing schemes. This ensures a stable 4K video transmission experience for drones.

Ms. Huang Lilian, Managing Director of Network Development and Sharing Department at China Telecom, said, “5G has become an important driving force of digital economy development. China Telecom is continuously exploring and promoting innovative technologies and solutions to meet the needs of new businesses and scenarios.”

“Since 2021, China Telecom has first proposed the Cluster concept and applied it to the frequency domain in Cluster DSS solution to improve 5G user experience, and then to the time domain, it has formed the Cluster DFS solution to enhance network versatility. Today, we are applying the ‘Cluster’ concept to the spatial domain, which can support low-altitude three-dimensional coverage based on 5G commercial networks and promote the digital development of the low-altitude economy. “

Mr. Zhang Wanchun, Senior Vice President at ZTE, introduced, “In the continuous exploration of 5G innovation applications, we adhere to the integration of efficient 5G networks, big data, and intelligence, forming a strong digital base to support the needs of digital and intelligent development for new businesses and scenarios. ZTE uses RAN native-AI to enable adaptive radio resource adjustment, including spectrum, frame structure, power and beams, seeking the best solution among limited wireless resources and increased user experience, unleashing 5G networks potential to create more value.”

Cluster DRS spearheads the shift in network resource policies from cell-centric to user-centric, establishing a framework for the collaborative advancement of the low-altitude economy and catalyzing the transition towards 6G technology.

Moving forward, ZTE and China Telecom will continue collaborating to carry out innovative practices and facilitate the development of 5G-Advanced applications for a digital, intelligent and green future.
