Software security company Veracode introduced mobile app intelligence technology for enterprises, revealing that 91 per cent of the top mobile apps “unnecessarily expose a user’s identifiable information”.

With most mobile users unaware of the risks third-party apps pose to their organisation, the Mobile Application Reputation Service (MARS) helps businesses and government organisations prevent inadvertent data leakage through the use of third-party apps.

MARS includes Veracode’s vulnerability scanning technology along with “comprehensive and quantitative risk analysis” for third party apps, to ensure they comply with enterprise device policies.

Through using MARS, Veracode found that many of the popular apps used in enterprises access confidential and personal data on mobile devices and expose sensitive information to unknown parties.

Sam King, EVP of product strategy and corporate development at Veracode, said MARS “shines light on the behaviour of these applications” and when used with Mobile Device Management and Mobile App Management software gives enterprises “a powerful tool to both inform and enforce their BYOD [Bring Your Own Device] risk management policies”.
