Online music service Spotify has launched a new version of its Android app with a raft of new features.

The app has been rebuilt to take advantage of the latest Android 4.0 operating system and now features slide-out navigation, crossfade playback, a widget to control the app from the homescreen and playlist folder support.

Users can also check friends’ profile pages, enjoy high-resolution artwork and have the option to use Last.fm scrobbling. The related artist view is available on mobile for the first time, while sound quality and speed have both been improved.

“For all our Android users, this Spotify update is a huge leap forward. We’ve rebuilt it from top to bottom, making it faster, slicker and much better looking,” said Spotify VP of Products, Gustav Södertröm.

Users wanting to get the Spotify app need to be Premium subscribers to the music service. Spotify currently has 10 million active users and 3 million paying subscribers across 25 countries.
