App monetisation platform Metaps secured JPY1 billion ($10.6 million) of funding, which it plans to use to become the largest Android monetisation platform in the world by the end of this year.

The company will use the investment to accelerate its business by recruiting new talent, growing its presence in Asia and expanding into other countries.

The platform, which provides developers with tools to attract customers, activate users and monetise traffic, has so far focused on North America and Asia (Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Singapore).

The funding has been provided by Fidelity Growth Partners Japan along with existing investors.

By February 2013, Android apps using Metaps achieved 62 million downloads, making it the largest network in Asia. Since summer 2012, Metaps has seen 60 per cent average monthly growth.

The company attributes the rapid growth to the demand created by smartphone makers in South Korea and Taiwan and the growing use of Android.
