Business networking site has LinkedIn has launched a revamped version of its mobile app for iPhone and Android, which will see the addition of advertising.

A LinkedIn spokeswoman told Reuters that ads will begin to appear on the news stream of the new app as part of a “small test”.

The aim of the revamp is to make it easier for users to discover and engage with information from their LinkedIn network.

The new app’s activity stream includes tailored updates, news and original posts from influential members of the service. Users can like and comment on conversations directly from their stream.

More personalisation options are now available, with a customisable navigation page allowing users to add the features they find most useful.

The new app has added language support for Dutch and Norwegian on the iPhone and Android, as well as Turkish on Android.

The service now supports 15 languages, reflecting the fact that 64 per cent of LinkedIn members are now located outside the US.

LinkedIn has around 200 million members with the mobile app contributing more than a quarter of its web traffic, compared to 15 per cent a year ago.
