App services company Kii announced a programme intended to help developers distribute and monetise apps in China.

The company said that “the world’s largest Android/iOS market by far” remains a challenge for international developers, with issues such as “culture, language and ‘great firewall’ barriers being only the beginning”.

Other differences compared with international markets include the fact there are “hundreds” of app stores, limited credit card usage, and China-only social networks.

To counter this, it is offering a package of services called Kii to China, which includes (among others) integration with local in-app payment systems and mobile ad networks, distribution to app stores including management of the approvals process, translation, and hosting of various cloud services within the ‘great firewall”.

Masanari Arai, Kii founder and CEO, said: “For the past 2 years, we have been helping our development partners get into China, while more and more developers around the world have come asking for our help too. Now we have a single solution to help all developers every step of the way — at a price point everyone can afford.”

Earlier this year, mobile social gaming giant Gree announced the closure of its Chinese operation, having failed to overcome challenges in this market.
