Gree, a Japan-based mobile social gaming platform company, announced an international expansion which will see it establishing subsidiaries in five countries.

It is to set up offices in Brazil, Netherlands, Singapore, South Korea and the UK, which will “enhance local business collaboration and help with development and support for local game developers.” The company also has plans to establish its first Chinese subsidiary, Gree Beijing, for “development and strategic alliance purposes.”

Gree said it has been “rapidly expanding internationally” in order to capitalise on smartphone market growth, with the company establishing a US subsidiary in January 2011. In April 2011 it acquired OpenFeint, which “manages the world’s largest cross platform social gaming network with over 115 million users worldwide.”

The Japanese company said that through its combination with OpenFeint, it has a network reaching more than 140 million users globally.
