Mobile advertising specialist Ogury, which wants to become the world’s largest mobile data platform, raised $15 million in funding.

The startup said it is helping solve the problem of “irrelevant advertising” by taking the guesswork out of mobile ad targeting. It wants to use the new funds to accelerate international expansion and invest in technology, research and recruitment.

“With the help of this investment, we aim to reach 1 billion mobile users within three years, and ultimately become the biggest mobile data platform, with the most granular data, in the world,” said CEO Jean Canzoneri.

The firm believes most mobile ad platforms have a limited view of user traffic because they identify sample audience behaviours, and then target and re-target groups of ‘lookalike’ users.

Ogury claims to be different by identifying actual users and said its proprietary technology forms a complete picture of what users are doing across their mobile devices, helping advertisers target consumers with relevant content.

Integrated into more than 10,000 apps, Ogury’s data collection technology provides a “true device-level view” of the behaviour of 250 million mobile users globally.

The company says 200 brands have worked with it and it has run more than 5000 campaigns across 80 countries.

Founded in 2014, the firm has offices in five European cities, with one set to open in New York soon. It claims to be one of the fastest growing mobile data companies in Europe, reaching over 100 employees “while remaining profitable”.

The Series B funding round was led by Idinvest Partners. Existing investors Ventech, CoVent Partners and ACG also participated, bringing Ogury’s total financing to date to more than $20 million.
