TI gains Telecom Argentina control
Telecom Italia (TI) announced a deal to increase its stake in Sofora Telecommunications, the holding company which controls Telecom Argentina, from 50 percent to 58 percent, with the ownership of the majority stake also giving it full control of the business.
Telefonica launches mobile apps store
Telefonica has become the latest major mobile operator to launch its own applications store. The store - known as 'mstore' - will launch initially in the operator's home market of Spain (via its 'Movistar' mobile brand) but plans to be eventually rolled-out across its entire global footprint, serving over 200 million subscribers.
Movistar launches unlimited music downloads
Latin American operator Movistar, a unit of Telefonica, has launched what it says is the region's first unlimited mobile music download service in Chile, Billboard reports. The service costs about US$7.50 per month and includes content from Universal Music and Warner Music Group.
Chile rules on new market entrant regulations
An anti-trust court in Chile has ruled that the country's mobile industry must introduce number portability in order to encourage new market entrants, but has ruled against government recommendations that existing mobile players be restricted from participating in a new mobile license tender.
