Korea Telecom hints at fixed-line/mobile merger
Korea Telecom (KT), South Korea's fixed-line incumbent operator, has hinted that it is planning to merge with its majority-owned mobile unit, KTF, the country's second-largest mobile operator, in order to offer bundled fixed and mobile services.
KT’s net income falls 30% on flat revenues
South Korea's KT saw its net income drop 30 percent in the second quarter as revenues were flat, reports TelecomPaper. Operating revenues rose only 0.7 percent to KRW3.03 trillion (US$3 billion), while EBITDA fell 1 percent to KRW861.5 billion from KRW873.3 billion in the year-earlier quarter. The company's mobile unit KT Freetel (KTF) swung to a net loss on increased marketing costs.
