Location directory app provider Poynt provided a business update, which also revised the targets of its recently-announced China Youth Poynt.

In a statement, Poynt said that partner China Youth Goyor is to deliver “at least 20 million active users by, on or about February 2013” – the previously announced aim for this milestone was August 2012. It said that this work will provide access to “more users than all eight previously announced preload agreements signed by [Poynt] globally.”

The company reiterated that as its initial objective, China Youth Goyor is focusing obtaining the necessary licenses needed to operate, securing data service agreements and preload deals, and “facilitating consumer usage of the Poynt mobile platform in China.”

In a statement, it was noted that “certain terms of the China JV are subject to the completion of all required due diligence and satisfaction of other customary conditions.”

Elsewhere, the company said that “the immense growth of the Poynt mobile platform” continued into 2012, with a unique user base of 13.5 million at the end of January 2012 – representing growth of 251 percent year-on-year. In the same month it passed 2.7 billion user transactions, adding 600 million interactions in “just over two months.”

It noted that user retention and user adoption influence its revenue growth, “as user activity is monetised in a variety of ways including through user queries, page views, on-page advertising, and in-platform transactions.”

Andrew Osis, CEO of the company, said: "These new geographies provide access to large smartphone markets which can help drive Poynt revenues through increased user queries and transactions within the Poynt Platform. As we focus on providing the best data available in all new Poynt Platform geographies, we anticipate that we will experience strong user uptake and retention in China as we have in all previous geographies."
