Telstra CEO David Thodey told delegates at the recent GSMA Mobile Asia Congress that the firm was building “two very different” LTE networks at its operations in Australia and Hong Kong. Unlike in densely populated Hong Kong – where Telstra launched LTE via its CSL subsidiary – Thodey said that in Australia it is building out a “wedding cake network architecture” with LTE deployed in urban areas and falling onto slower networks in more rural areas. Usage trends are also different between the two markets, he revealed.
