Philippine number one operator Smart says its network is on track to support widespread LTE services and is now awaiting the arrival of affordable smartphones that can serve the country’s low-ARPU customer base. In an exclusive new video interview with Mobile World Live, Smart’s CEO Napoleon Nazareno reveals the company has invested about US$1.7 billion in modernising the coverage and capacity of its entire mobile network and has already deployed a few LTE base stations in central Manila, with plans to increase this to another “three to four hundred base stations” in urban centres. “I think we’re ready [for LTE],” says Nazareno.
