South Korea fines Apple over location data
Reuters reports that the South Korean communications authorities have fined Apple US$2,855 after it collected location data from iPhone and iPad users without permission.
Korean watchdog launches subsidy probe
South Korea’s telecom regulator has begun an investigation into whether operators had provided “excessive” subsidies for handset purchases, warning of tough sanctions for offenders, Reuters reports.
The government of South Korea is set to support the widespread rollout of NFC technology, according to a Reuters report. The plan is to install or upgrade 300,000 payment terminals in stores or transport hubs, as well as requiring vendors to add contactless commerce support to new smartphones.
Samsung tops 1M Galaxy S2 sales in SK
South Korean publication JoongAng Daily said that operators in South Korea have activated more than one million of Samsung’s Galaxy S2 smartphones in its first month on sale, enabling the vendor to regain market share lost to Apple’s iPhone.
