Belgium regulator fails to automatically extend license terms

Cellular News notes that Belgium’s telecoms regulator, BIPT, and Government Minister Vincent van Quickenborne, have declined to automatically renew the GSM licenses for two of the country’s mobile operators, Proximus (owned by Belgacom) and Mobistar (majority-owned by France Telecom). Both licenses expire in 2010.

Proximus hit by EUR66M fine

Reuters reports that Belgium’s competition authority imposed a EUR66.3 million (US$92.6 million) fine on Belgacom’s mobile arm Proximus yesterday for abusing its dominant position.
