Reuters said that credit card company Visa is joining a contactless commerce pilot initiated by rival MasterCard, which enables customers to buy New York subway tickets by waving compatible cards or smartphones over a reader at the entry turnstile.
Credit card company MasterCard says it will rollout a mobile version of its PayPass payment system in a trial in Canada using Near Field Communications (NFC) technology. The trial will be conducted on Bell Canada’s network using phones from an unnamed vendor.
MasterCard and Obopay have agreed to offer an on-demand person-to-person mobile payment service in the US using Obopay’s applications and website. The service, offered via MasterCard MoneySend, will give new and existing MasterCard issuing customers the ability to provide a mobile payments service to their MasterCard cardholders on all credit, debit and prepaid MasterCard-branded products.
