Report: AT&T and T-Mobile USA working on Plan B JV deal

AT&T and T-Mobile USA-owner Deutsche Telekom are reportedly drawing up plans for an alternative deal to their US$39 billion mega-merger, which would now see the two firms pool their networks and spectrum into a joint-venture. The move is seen as a further acknowledgement by the two firms that the original deal seems increasingly unlikely to be approved by US regulators.

AT&T books US4B charge for T-Mobile USA deal

AT&T has said it will take a US$4 billion charge this quarter relating to its proposed takeover of T-Mobile USA, an apparent acknowledgement by the US operator that the deal may not now get regulatory approval to go ahead. The firm added that it was also withdrawing the merger application lodged with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), after the US regulator said this week it wanted to investigate the deal, potentially creating yet another regulatory hurdle.
