Chunghwa predicts mobile Internet boom

Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan’s largest operator by subscribers, has predicted it will add over 200,000 new subscribers to its mobile Internet services in 2010 as demand rises for mobile broadband and smartphones, according to a report by Dow Jones Newswires.

Telecompaper, citing a Xinhua article, notes that China Unicom launched its 3G services officially on 1 October, following rivals China Mobile and China Telecom. China Unicom’s 3G network is based on WCDMA technology and currently covers 258 cities in China. The operator has also begun selling the iPhone.
