T-Mobile USA and Nokia Siemens Networks are backing an HSPA-based technology that they claim could match the peak-rate data speeds promised by LTE Advanced. The companies want to see ‘Long Term HSPA Evolution,’ which they say could achieve peak-rate data speeds of 650Mb/s, adopted as a standard.

US operator T-Mobile USA has taken a big swipe at Apple and AT&T with its latest advertising campaign for its nationwide HSPA+ network. Dubbing the campaign “America’s largest 4G network,” the advert mocks AT&T’s much-reported network coverage issues for the iPhone, and is based on Apple’s “I’m a Mac/iPhone” theme.

ITU paves way for true 4G technology

Industry alignment behind the definition of true ‘4G’ has moved closer following news that the ITU’s Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R) has chosen LTE-Advanced and WirelessMAN-Advanced’ (sometimes known as WiMAX 802.16m) as its official technologies for the 4G standard IMT-Advanced.
