Square gets its fingers on Apple’s Touch ID

08 JAN 2015

Square Cash, the app which enables P2P money transfer, has been updated so users can authenticate the sending of funds using the Touch ID fingerprint sensor on later versions of the iPhone (the iPhone 5S and above).

The addition of Touch ID authentication was among the new features included in Version 2.3 of the Square Cash app.

Square Cash is a free service that enables users to send cash via email address or mobile number.

Apple already uses Touch ID for authenticating payments but this announcement follows on the heels of Google updating its Wallet app so users can open it via the fingerprint sensor (although not use it to authenticate a money transfer).

Version 2.3 of Square Cash also includes the opportunity for its users to earn $5 for each friend they persuade to try the app. The upgrade also includes various bug fixes and improvements.
