Telecompaper reports that Trinidad & Tobago plans to license a third mobile network operator. Interested bidders can obtain tender documents from 6 November from the region’s Telecommunications Authority and applications are due by 30 January. The winner will receive spectrum in the 900 and 1800 MHz bands.
According to Wireless Intelligence, Trinidad & Tobago has a mobile market penetration of 124 percent and a total subscriber base of 1.64 million. GSM operator Bmobile (TSTT) is the market leader with 1.02 million subscribers, competing with GSM rival Digicel which has 623,000 customers.
