Digital Transformation is currently a hot topic, but the term perhaps oversimplifies a strategy comprising a number of different elements and for which there are several differing motivations and goals.
A Mobile World Live survey of more than 500 industry executives highlighted financial incentives as among the main motivators for businesses to embark on a digital transformation journey: more than 27 per cent of respondents cited increased revenue as their main driver for digital transformation and almost 50 per cent are seeking to cut operating expenses.
However, financial matters are not the only driver of transformation. Almost 30 per cent of respondents said they are seeking to reduce the time taken to bring new products to market.
While virtualising today’s physically-oriented network infrastructure is a key goal of operators’ digital transformation, respondents highlighted a potential shortage of skilled staff and a need for swift completion of transformation journeys as key challenges.
