Samsung Pay is reportedly set to launch in Spain next week, marking its European debut.

The plans were revealed by its director in Europe, Nathalie Oestmann, reports UK’s City AM, with the South Korean smartphone maker launching its payment service in Spain with an added focus on extras such as membership and loyalty schemes, to differentiate from competitors like Apple and Google.

The company said earlier this month it was also adding similar benefits to its offering in the US, following its launch there in September.

Oestmann reportedly said the payments service will come to the UK “later this year”, and is likely to support travel across London’s travel network.

The company is also exploring withdrawing cash from ATMs, in car payments and integration with white goods, such as fridges, as it bids to add “value to the ecosystem” beyond transactions.

“We’re thinking through all the kinds of things we can do,” said Oestmann.

Samsung Pay is also available in South Korea, the US and China, and is reportedly already close to surpassing $1 billion worth of transactions, since its introduction in its home market last August.
