Customers of German tech firm Wirecard, including operators, banks and retailers, will be able to use Apple Wallet when the successor to Passbook becomes available with iOS 9 this autumn in Europe.

The wallet will provide support for bonus, loyalty and payment cards, as well as the tickets already supported by Passbook. The wallet is used in coordination with Apple Pay. So far the only country outside the US with a launch date for the NFC-based payment service is the UK. Apple Pay will launch in the UK next month (July), it was announced last week at WWDC.

Wirecard supports the integration of loyalty and coupon services built on its offers platform with Apple Wallet. In particular, companies issuing or accepting payment cards in partnership with Wirecard will benefit from this new service, when linking payment functions to loyalty or cashback programs. For such services, Wirecard will not only support payment cards enabled in Apple Wallet but also payment cards in traditional form factors.

Customers of Wirecard for issuing and acceptance of payment cards and card-linked offers, including leading banks, retailers and operators, will benefit from the integration with Apple Wallet by gaining access to millions of iPhone users, the firm said.
