Visa has announced the launch of a service that allows US financial institutions to offer accountholders the ability to use their mobile devices to access account balances and history, move funds between accounts and receive near real-time alerts about transactions. The credit card giant has worked with technology firm Monitise to enhance its issuer processing platform called Visa DPS so that the new services are fully managed by Visa and can be accessed with “any mobile device, any mobile channel, and with any eligible debit, credit or prepaid account”. Additional service under development include NFC-based payments, mobile cheque deposit and support for V.me, Visa’s electronic wallet.

The credit card provider says the services offered over the Visa DPS platform are in effect a one-stop solution for US financial institutions who want to offer mobile services to their customers without making a significant investment of their own in hardware, software of mobile expertise. Visa holds a 14 percent stake in Monitise, a specialist mobile banking and payments vendor.
