In quick succession, the two largest operators in the US have launched the same case from US vendor Incipio that enables the iPhone to make NFC-based payments.

The Cashwrap case enables use of the Apple device for payments via the Isis mobile wallet. Verizon Wireless and AT&T are both shareholders in the Isis venture along with T-Mobile US.

Verizon Wireless started offering Incipio’s case, which works with the iPhone 5 and 5S as well as the iPhone 4 and 4S, on 6 February. The iPhone of course does not feature NFC technology.

The operator is within touching distance of rival AT&T which launched the same product online at the end of last month (24 January). It went on sale in AT&T’s retail outlets a week later (31 January).

The price for Incipio’s device starts at $70 – the same for both operators. According to CNet, the case for the iPhone 4/4S is more expensive at $80.

Users of the iPhone also need to download an iOS version of the Isis app in order to make NFC-based payments.

Incipio claims to be the only NFC case for the iPhone 5/5S on the market.
