Twitter is introducing a new service called Offers that enables users to respond to a special offer in an advertiser’s tweet, and then redeem the offer either in a physical store or online, according to Nathan Hubbard, its head of commerce.

Hubbard outlined the service in an interview with Re/code.

Firstly, a user must link their credit or debit card to their Twitter account. They can then respond to an offer — and collect in-store by paying with the linked card.

This is not Twitter’s first foray into payments. Recently, in a similar sounding initiative, it trialled a Buy button that retailers can embed into tweets for e-commerce transactions.

More recently, France’s second largest bank Groupe BPCE launched a service that enables users to tweet money to one another.
