Turkcell is working with local financial institution Akbank to offer a NFC-based mobile wallet service that is tailored to a subscriber’s location. Those Turkcell users who hold the bank’s Axess credit card in the operator’s Cep-T Cüzdan mobile wallet can be targeted with special offers from Akbank based on their location. Users who take up the offer can make a NFC-based purchase at a point-of-sale terminal in a nearby retailer.  This is the first such service to be launched in Turkey, says the mobile operator.

However Turkcell and Akbank have worked together before. The two companies joined forces several months ago on the operator’s NFC-based Cep-T Cüzdan service so that those Akbank customers with its Axess card can make transactions at home and abroad using the mobile wallet.  Turkcell first launched the wallet in 2011. In addition to Akbank, the operator also works with local financial institutions Garanti Bank and Yapi Kredi Bank.
