Turkcell has launched its latest own-brand NFC handset that includes a new service for ordering goods from a range of suppliers including fast food, supermarket and energy firms. Users purchasing the Turkcell Maxiplus5 handset also receive an NFC-based tag embedded in a fridge magnet. By tapping the magnet with their handset, users can open an application (see picture) that enables purchases from a range of suppliers. Initially they are Burger King, supermarket chain Migros, gas vendor Aygaz and Pürsu, a supplier of bottled water. Goods can be delivered to the user’s home.

This is the latest in Turkcell’s T series own-brand Android handset to feature NFC. It is built by ZTE. Previous models are the T20 manufactured by Huawei and the T11 also made by ZTE.

The Maxiplus5 is the first of the three handsets to gain full certification from one of the major international payment networks, MasterCard Worldwide. The operator is also seeking certification from Visa for the same handset. The two previous handsets were granted waivers from full certification by MasterCard. The operator says its TSM (trusted service manager) was the first by a mobile operator in Europe to be approved by MasterCard.

The NFC-based home tag features other application in addition to home ordering such as information on local services as well as Turkcell’s own TV app and the Tunein radio app.
