Celebrating the fifth anniversary of Easypaisa, Telenor talked up how embedded the mobile money service has become in Pakistan’s economy, attracting six million users every month.

The operator, which launched service on 15 October 2009 in partnership with Tameer Micro Finance Bank, claims to be the financial service with the most outlets in the country, with 50,000-plus Easypaisa shops in 800 cities.

In addition to the six million monthly users, the service also has 2.8 million users who have subscribed to Easypaisa Mobile Accounts.

Nearly 400,000 transactions take place on the service every day and, in 2013, Easypaisa moved one per cent of Pakistan’s GDP.

Although not mentioned by Telenor, Easypaisa is likely to have had a positive effect on customer loyalty for the operator over the past half decade. This is a significant factor in the country’s highly competitive mobile market where Telenor holds the number two spot.
