Swiss watchmaker Swatch Group confirmed an agreement with Visa and Visa Europe as payment partners for the launch of its NFC-enabled wrist watch at home, as well as in the US and Brazil.

A report last week said such an agreement was on the cards for the Swatch Bellamy, which is due to launch in early 2016.

Visa cardholders will be able to tap the watch against NFC-enabled point-of-sale terminals in locations such as shops and restaurants.

The Swatch announcement notes that “pay-by-the-wrist” transactions with the Bellamy require no energy from the watch itself, meaning customers can expect “the usual battery life of a Swatch”.

The launch market for the Bellamy is China where it will debut in January 2016. However, its payments partner in China is not Visa but China Unionpay, the country’s dominant card-payment processor.
