Users of the Apple iPhone are “most keen” among subscribers in the UK on mobile banking, according to a survey conducted by YouGov on behalf of Intelligent Environments, a digital banking provider. The survey compares banking habits by operating systems and finds the enthusiasm of iPhone users outstrips that of Android, Symbian, Windows Phone 7, RIM BlackBerry, Windows Mobile 6.5 users, as well as that of non-smartphone users.  More than two-thirds (69 percent) of iPhone users would check their account balances via their handsets. And 46 percent would pay their bills and 62 percent transfer funds in the same way.

Elsewhere in the same survey, it emerges that more than one quarter (27 percent) of Android users are interested in what the survey terms “wave and pay” services, meaning those based on NFC technology. This compares with a figure of 13 percent for the UK general public.  Given the early momentum behind NFC from Google and leading Android manufacturers, this finding is probably unsurprising. Elsewhere, the survey finds one in five (21 percent) of all UK users would pay their bills through their mobile phones given the choice. And that 36 percent would check their account balances.  Both figures are significantly lower than that for iPhone users.
