US firm Payrange has pulled in $2.6 million through a fundraising and named former Google Wallet chief Osama Bedier (pictured) as a director.

Both developments were revealed in a SEC filing first reported by Oregonlive.

The Portland-based firm’s technology enables users to buy goods from vending machines and other devices using their smartphone.

Payrange was founded by Paresh Patel.

Osama Bedier joined the board of another startup called WePay earlier this year.

He stepped down from Google last year where he was vice president of wallet & payments.

The idea behind Payrange is to introduce Bluetooth-enabled dongles to a range of devices such as vending machines and parking meters so they accept payments from smartphones. The $49 dongle will be available to device vendors later this summer.

Users will have to download the Payrange app and set up a pre-paid account with the firm before they can make purchases.
