US mobile payments firm Square announced the acquisition of Evenly, the maker of an app that enables users to collect payments from friends.

The peer-to-peer payment app allows users to send and receive requests for funds from their contacts list. Users can see which of their friends have made payments, while an activity feed provides a social element.

According to a post on the Square Engineering Blog, Evenly “showcased the importance of prioritising experience over the technical aspects of the product itself”.

The staff coming in from Evenly will work on seller initiatives to bring the “same focus on simplicity and design” to Square.

Evenly said user accounts will remain active until 15 January 2014. Once the app has closed, user information will be deleted while any funds still held in accounts will be deposited in user bank accounts.

Financial terms of the deal were not revealed.
