MasterCard has added Spain as the fourth European country where its MasterPass wallet payment system is available to banks, merchants and consumers.

Following counterparts in UK, Italy and Sweden, banks and financial institutions in Spain can now use MasterPass for their own branded online and mobile wallets.

Among merchants, eDreams, Logitravel and Atrapalo are some of the first online merchants in Spain working to introduce the wallet to their shoppers.

The announcement made no mention of any presence yet for MasterPass among physical retailers in the country. The wallet supports technologies including NFC or QR codes for in-store purchases.

Outside of Europe, MasterPass is available in the US, Canada and Australia, and was recently announced in Brazil. Throughout 2014, it will arrive in several other markets around the world.
