Singapore’s Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) has chosen a consortium to build NFC infrastructure and launch mobile wallet services. The winning consortium includes infrastructure vendor Gemalto, Citibank, DBS Bank, contactless payment provider EZ-Link and Singapore's three cellular operators SingTel, Starhub and M1. The consortium will be the trusted service manager (TSM) for the deployment.

The project is expected to launch commercially in mid-2012 when more than 20,000 retailers and taxis will accept payment via NFC. Together with the IDA, the consortium will invest US$31.5 million in deploying infrastructure and launch at least ten NFC-based services.
The country’s fourth mobile operator Grid, whose network uses iDEN wireless technology, is not mentioned in the announcement.
