Mobile operator Rogers has confirmed plans to launch its own credit card commercially in 2014, following further regulatory clearance from the Canadian authorities.

The company has announced that the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions has issued an Order to Commence and Carry on Business, authorising a subsidiary of Rogers to begin offering credit card services.

“Within the next year, our customers will be able to participate in our credit card programme that will give them the opportunity to accelerate the rate at which they earn rewards in the Rogers First Rewards programme,” said David Robinson, vice-president of emerging business, Rogers Communications.

Ahead of its 2014 launch, Rogers will deploy a pilot to a select group of customers.

Earlier this year, Rogers received regulatory backing from the country’s Ministry of Finance.
