Canadian mobile operator Rogers Communications has taken a step forward in the regulatory process needed to issue its own credit card.

The country’s Minister of Finance has issued it with a ‘Letters Patent’, incorporating Rogers Bank, which is primarily focused on credit card services.

However, Rogers still has more to do before it can issue its own card. It has twelve months to move forward with the application process to meet the requirements of a so-called Order to Commence and Carry on Business.

Rogers started its quest for a bank licence back in September 2011.
