RIM has announced a new NFC-based service called BlackBerry Tag that enables users to touch devices to share contact information, documents, URLs, photos and other multimedia content. However the company’s announcement makes no mention of users being able to make P2P mobile payments via the new service, a potentially attractive way to leverage so-called tap-to-share technology.  The RIM release says the new service is “coming soon” and was announced by Jim Balsillie, the company’s Co-CEO during a keynote presentation at the Gitex conference in Dubai.

The tagging service will be able to take advantage of NFC capability included in recently launched BlackBerry devices: the Bold 9900/9930 and BlackBerry Curve 9350/9360/9370. Developers will also be able to take advantage of the service through APIs on the BlackBerry platform.
