Portugal Telecom has started a pilot for its TMN Mobile Wallet which the mobile operator will run for the next three months across a number of sites.  Participants in the pilot will be drawn from the operator’s own ranks rather than members of the public. It is designed to test the wallet across a range of technologies. Employees equipped with any type of mobile phone will be able to participate in the pilot which enables transactions based on NFC, SMS, USSD and QR codes.

Employees participating in the pilot have a choice from a number of cards they can place in their mobile wallets. Cards include Visa, MasterCard, Amex, PayPal, Multibanco or MB Phone. Participants can purchase items form vending machines and canteens in Portugal Telecom offices in Lisbon as well as the PT Innovation building in Aveiro. By extending the range of technologies beyond NFC, the operator ensures not just smartphone users will join the pilot, meaning greater participation and a more diverse set of results.
