Readers of Mobile Money Live are split on how the mobile industry should address user fears about NFC security. A number of surveys in recent months have revealed concerns among users about potential security threats. How best to address this issue? More than one third of respondents (35 percent) supported a massive marketing campaign to address anxieties. This option was slightly ahead of the second-placed suggestion: Introduce more levels of security such as additional PINs and passwords to make a security breach less likely (29 percent).

The next most popular choice to lower user concerns was ensuring affordable NFC handsets, the argument being that greater availability will breed familiarity and reduce fears (24 percent). The fourth option lagging behind the more popular alternatives is to do nothing because users are being irrational and their concerns will pass. This option was only favoured by 12 percent of respondents.
