PayPal launched a version of its PayPal Here card reader that accepts NFC-enabled payments, including from Apple Pay.

In addition to the Apple payment service, which has just become available in the UK, retailers can use PayPal’s card reader to accept contactless payments from Visa, Maestro and MasterCard debit and credit cards.

The new reader can accept payments from both chip and PIN cards, as well as those with magnetic stripes. It also offers other services, such as invoicing, receipt processing, as well as cash and cheque logging.

Retailers do not have to pay monthly fees or accept fixed terms for the reader. But they do pay a one-off price of £80 for the device, as well as 2.75 per cent per transaction.

The payments firm is  also pushing Bouncepad’s iPad enclosure and cradle which works with the PayPal Here card reader. The enclosure and cradle costs £225 (not including tax), and purchasers also pay £12 for post and packing.
