PayPal has announced that its mobile payments app is now available for Pebble smartwatch users.

“Pebblers are able to check-in to pay or pay with payment code at numerous retailers, restaurants and other local businesses accepting PayPal” and can also receive payment notifications on their smartwatches, the company said in a blog post.

If they choose to check-in, the app will automatically communicate with the retailer’s point of sale.

Pebble was launched in 2013 with investment from crowd funding platform Kickstarter.

The PayPal app has already been available for other wearable platforms, including the Android Wear devices and Samsung’s Gear range.

Although there were reports of talks about a partnership on payments between PayPal and Apple, negotiations fell through when a deal was signed for Samsung users to make PayPal payments with the Galaxy S5’s fingerprint sensor.

Retailer-backed venture MCX has reportedly barred its members from allowing PayPal for mobile payments in their stores, not long after two of MCX’s members disabled NFC in their stores so Apple Pay became unavailable.
