Mobile point-of-sale provider Payleven has struck an agreement with Easy Taxi to offer a service in Brazil that enables passengers to pay their fares through a smartphone app.

Easy Taxi claims to be the world’s largest taxi-ordering app.

Passengers enter their credit card details into Easy Taxi’s app once. The details are lodged in Payleven’s system. Once stored, passengers can use the details instead of their actual credit card. Meanwhile the taxi driver receives a real-time confirmation that the payment has been made to them via Payleven’s system.

Using this method is more secure for both drivers and passengers because it reduces the amount of cash used in taxi rides.

Payleven is one of a number of European firms trying to break into Latin America’s mobile payments market. Others include SumUp, iZettle and mPowa. There are also indigenous competitors, including Clip in Mexico.
