The number of mobile banking customers in Pakistan grew by 25 percent in the three months from June to September 2012, according to the State Bank of Pakistan.

The total number of mobile bank accounts in the country grew during the quarter from 1.45 million to 1.81 million, said the bank.

In addition, the number of agents selling mobile money services grew by 7 percent over the same period.

And the number of transactions increased by 11 percent, while the value of those transactions grew by 21 percent, said the report.

Among the companies offering mobile banking in Pakistan is mobile operator Telenor, which holds a majority stake in Tameer Micro Finance Bank, a local financial institution.
