A new service by Indian payments solutions provider Oxigen means users will be able to make money transfers via social network and messaging apps such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Google+ and Twitter.

Pre-paid Oxigen Wallet is the latest initiative to use personal information such as a Facebook profile or a user’s mobile number as a means for authentication, rather than sharing bank account details. It claims to be a first for India.

The wallet app is available in Apple’s App Store and Google Play. Once downloaded, users can send cash to friends and families, as well as adding photos, videos, audio and text messages to the transfer.

Additional services include pre-paid recharge for phones, bill payment and online shopping.
