Operator group Orange used its “Essentials2020” strategy event in Paris today to provide a brief update on its progress in mobile financial services.

Most notably, the company said the area of mobile banking “offers significant growth prospects and is where the group will concentrate its efforts.” To this end, Orange announced plans to focus on expansion in its three largest European markets: Poland, France and Spain.

While the company has already launched its Orange Finanse banking service in Poland, the group now plans to launch similar services in France and Spain by 2018.

Meanwhile the company reiterated progress around its work in the areas of money transfer and payments. It claimed that Orange Money is “already a huge success” in Africa and the Middle East, with 13 million users and an objective to reach 30 million users by 2018. And it talked up its work in Europe, with the company “already active” in the region with its Orange Cash and NFC services.
